Appointed-Ambassador Faily Delivers Remarks at US-Iraq Higher Education Conference

Appointed-Ambassador Lukman Faily delivered remarks at the US-Iraq Higher Education Conference on June 25, 2013 at the Iraqi Cultural Center in Washington, DC. Mr. Faily stressed the importance expanding international partnerships and initiatives through higher education.

The conference was organized by bodies of the Iraqi government in the United States with support from the U.S. Department of State.

Among the topics discussed at the conference were establishing Ph.D. student and faculty research programs at United States universities, understanding Iraqi transcripts and credential evaluation, and ensuring readiness of cultural and religious resources for faculty, students and families in the 'transition to transformation' of Iraqi students.

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iraq Brett McGurk also delivered remarks at the conference. Others in attendance were members from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education, Office of the Prime Minister and the Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
