Embassy of Iraq hosts event to honor AUIS Chairman

On December 12, 2013, the Embassy of Iraq hosted a reception in Washington, DC to honor Dr. Barham Salih, founder and chairman of the American University of Iraq in Sulaimaniyah.

Ambassador Faily delivered opening remarks, in which he emphasized the importance of US-Iraqi cooperation on education and highlighted some of the achievements over the recent years, noting that there are over 800 Iraqi students presently at universities in the United States.

In his welcome address, Dr. Barham Salih expressed hopes of building on the achievements of AUIS and pledged his commitment to enhancing the quality of higher education in Iraq.

Dr. Dawn Dekle, AUIS President, delivered the keynote speech, touching on the role of AUIS in nurturing future leaders.

A signing ceremony took place between AUIS and the American University of Iraq Foundation. Guests also watched a campus video tour, produced by AUIS students.

Concluding remarks were offered by Ambassador Rend al-Rahim Francke and Dr. Athanasios Moulakis from the American University of Iraq Foundation.
