Airport operations remain normal throughout Iraq

The Iraqi Ministry of Transport reported last week that all airports throughout Iraq are secure and continue to operate normally. "We have not recorded any stoppage or irregularities as a result of the recent security events in the country," said Captain Nasser Hussein Bandar, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority. Both international private security firms as well as the Iraqi security forces secure Iraq’s airports.

Some routes within Iraq have experienced increased passenger traffic. Iraqi Airways has increased flights and putt more aircraft on-line. June also marked the opening of a new terminal at Baghdad International Airport that will add capacity of five million passengers a year. Within the coming months, Iraqi Airways plans to upgrade its online flight scheduling system. This modification would allow passengers to book flights further in advance.
