Detroit Firms to Design $600M Oil Tech University in Iraq

A consortium of Michigan design and architecture firms has been hired to design a $600 million new university in Basra, Iraq to teach petroleum engineering.

Iraq’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ali Al-Adeeb, is in Michigan this week to tour projects created by the firms that are part of Icon Global Architecture Engineering. Included in the tour is the University of Michigan campus, the Henry Ford Health System’s new hospital, Lawrence Technological University, and Michigan State University.

Minister Al-Adeeb’s focus will be on energy-efficient buildings, classrooms fostering a creative learning environment and building aesthetics.
