Foreign Minister discusses with his Iranian Counterpart issues of common interest

Foeign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met on Tuesday 10/8/2021 his counterpart Mohammed Javad Zarif in Tehran.

The Minister expressed his desire to work to support and strengthen relations between Baghdad and Tehran in a way that reflects their depth, stressing his keenness to maintain bilateral cooperation in various fields in the next stage to achieve the common interests of the two countries, and to activate the memorandums of understanding agreed upon with the Iraqi government.

The two sides exchanged visions and ideas on regional and international issues of common concern. They also discussed developments in the region, the challenges it faces, and the need to support peace and stability through concerted efforts.

For his part, Mr. Zarif affirmed his country’s keenness to deepen the bonds of relations between the two countries, expressing his thanks for Iraq’s stances aimed at pushing the option of calm, and avoiding escalation in the region.
