Foreign Minister Gives Iraq's Speech in EU-League of Arab States Ministerial Meeting

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim delivered a speech at the 5th EU- League of Arab States Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels.

Minister Alhakim began the speech by stressing that the Arab countries are moving towards a positive partnership in crisis management and countering terrorism pointing out to the importance of bilateral cooperation between the EU and the League of Arab States to solve crises in Arab countries. Minister Alhakim stated that “ My Government affirms the need for joint action between the European Union and the League of Arab States to achieve a just and a permanent solution to the Palestinian issue and to preserve the unity of Syria and Libya.”

Minister Alhakim warned of the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen because of the spread of epidemics and famine, stressing the need to provide humanitarian assistance and spare civilians from war, and called on the international community to provide more support to Iraq in the reconstruction of Iraqi cities, in addition to fulfilling their commitments made at the Conference on the reconstruction of Iraq in Kuwait.

The Minister described this meeting as important in creating a common ground for building regional cooperation relation to achieve the aspiration of the peoples and to meet the political, social, economic, environmental and security challenges that threaten the future of our societies.

Minister Alhakim concluded his speech by emphasizing the need to adopt participatory mechanisms in strengthening national capacities, counter-terrorism and border control; to reduce the flow of terrorist fighters.
