Foreign Minister Meets with UNAMI Head of Mission

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq to discuss the political developments taking place in the Iraqi arena and the UN efforts in support of Iraq.

The Minister and Ms. Hennis discussed the cooperation between the two parties in the field of clearing mines and explosives from Iraqi territory, and reviewed the efforts of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in the fight against corruption, including the formation of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Council.

Minister Alhakim pointed out that there is a state of harmony and agreement among Iraqi politicians, and that the government seeks to strengthen Iraq's relations with the regional environment.

On her part, Ms. Hennis reviewed the mission's activities in Iraq since she assumed her duties, her meetings with Iraqi officials and the supreme religious authority Mr. Sistani, praising the ability of the people of Mosul to overcome the ordeal they suffered as a result of Daesh terrorist gangs and expressed the interest of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in pursuing the affairs of Iraq and his desire to visit Baghdad.
