Foreign Minister Receives Georgian Counterpart Mr. David Zalkaliani

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Georgian Foreign Minister Mr. David Zalkaliani on the sidelines of the 40th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The meeting comes within the framework of maintaining high-level communication between the two countries and aims at strengthening bilateral relations, consultation on various issues, and regional challenges, which calls for Iraq to find sustainable solutions to enhance stability in the region.

Minister Alhakim stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations by diversifying the frameworks of consultation and joint cooperation to contribute to achieving security and stability in the region, expressing Baghdad's aspiration to continue and increase support for all efforts exerted at various political, economic, developmental and social levels for the benefit of both countries.

Minister Alhakim also briefed his Georgian counterpart on Iraq's efforts to combat terrorism in order to eradicate this occurrence from its roots on Iraqi soil.

Minister Alhakim pointed out that the government aims to create an attractive environment for foreign investment, and to provide ways to develop promising investment opportunities for foreign companies to invest in Iraq and joint coordination between the two countries in the field of culture and exchange of experiences, as well as coordination at the international level in international organisations and discussed the possibility of opening an air transport route between the two countries.

On is part, Mr. Zalkaliani stressed the strategic importance of Iraq in the Middle East region, and that the government of his country is keen to advance bilateral cooperation with Baghdad in various fields in the next phase, praising the role of Baghdad in facing terrorism, noting the importance of continuing to work to fight terrorism.
