Iraq Ministry of Health Releases New Health Strategy

After a year of policy planning, the Ministry of Health recently released a new health strategy that provides for upgrades to the healthcare system, continuing education for healthcare professionals, as well as the incorporation of technology into the field of medicine. The strategy is based off of various demographic, social, and economic factors for the next ten years.

In a statement, Dr. Ali Mahmoud, the director of health planning summarized the initiative, “The document included a bundle of procedural policies which define the framework for joint co-operation and understandings between the Health Ministry and the other concerned ministries, including the education, higher education, environment and planning ministries, as well as with international organizations and institutions like the World Health Organization.”

The new strategy focuses mainly on treating and preventing the spread of diseases, lowering infant mortality rates, and providing more efficient and higher-quality patient care.
