Iraqi Foreign Minister Meets Australian Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York

Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al- Jaafari met Australian Foreign Minister Ms.Marise Payne on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

They discussed bilateral relations and means of promoting them to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

His Excellency praised the positions of Australia in supporting Iraq, especially in the stage of confronting the Daesh terrorist gangs, stating that the Iraqi people will not forget who stood by them in their crises, adding: Iraq after getting rid of the terrorist gangs of Daesh began reconstruction and construction; because when Daesh terrorist gangs are defeated in an area it leaves behind great traces of destruction and devastation.

The minister expressed Iraq's desire to sign a memorandum of understanding for bilateral security cooperation between Baghdad and Canberra.

On her part, Australian Foreign Minister praised the role of Iraq in the United Nations and its position in the Nuclear Weapons Convention. She expressed her admiration for the performance of the Iraqi security forces in the confronting the terrorist gangs of Daesh, and the determination of the Iraqi people.

Stressing that the Australian government will focus its support for Iraq on the humanitarian side, and the return of displaced to their areas of residence.
