President Barham Salih welcomed Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Iraq, to the Presidential Office in Baghdad today.
The President emphasized the international organization’s critical role in Iraq, citing efforts the UN has made to support the democratic process across the country as well as highlighting the importance of Iraq as a potential trusted actor that could help reduce regional tension and consolidate international peace and security.

President Barham Salih received Mr. Alaa Mousa the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Iraq, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad, Tuesday, February 5, 2019.
His Excellency received an official invitation from his Egyptian counterpart His Excellency Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to attend the Arab-European summit due to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh at the end of this month.
The President asked Ambassador Mousa to convey his greetings to his brother H.E. President el-Sisi, expressing his gratitude for this kind invitation.

The delegation of the Republic of Iraq, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Mohammed Tamim, and the delegation of the United States Government, led by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, co-chaired a meeting of the Higher Coordinating Committee on April 15, in accordance with the 2008 Iraq-U.S. Strategic Framework Agreement. President Obama welcomed Prime Minister Maliki to the White House, where the two discussed US-Iraq relations as they fall under the Strategic Framework Agreement; as well as counter-terrorism cooperation between the two countries.

Meeting with US Central Command Chief General Kenneth McKenzie today in Baghdad, President Salih highlighted the need to develop friendly relations between Iraq and US in addition to coordinate and collaborate in the fight against terrorism.
Furthermore, he underlined that Iraq will not be a theatre of regional and international conflicts.
We, therefore, seek to build good relations with all states and we have no interest in being dragged into conflicts not of our choice and making, President Salih added.

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington organized a seminar entitled “Twenty Years of Challenge and Achievement: The Iraqis’ Journey Toward Democracy” which highlighted the progress achieved by Iraq in the field of democracy and political stability, the positive developments that Iraq has witnessed, and the importance of moving forward in the process of overcoming challenges and celebrating achievements.
