The United States Institute of Peace (USIP) hosted Prime Minister Maliki for public remarks and a discussion on U.S.-Iraq relations, and the current challenges facing Iraq and the region. USIP President Mr. Jim Marshall and Ambassador Beth Jones delivered opening remarks.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Estonian Foreign Minister Mr. Urmas Reinsalu on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
Minister Alhakim stressed Baghdad’s keenness to develop bilateral relations with Estonia in various fields, calling on the Estonian side to establish a real partnership, especially in the economic aspects,which can provide development opportunities in both countries.

The Prime Minister reviewed the embassy`s work and the performance of its staff, praising the efforts made during his official visit to the United States and the excellent organization, particularly commending the Iraqi Ambassador to the United States. On July 13, Ambassador Al Khirullah met with Steve Lutes, Vice President of Middle East Affairs at US Chamber of Commerce and Head of Iraqi-American Business Council (USIBC) and discussed with him the meetings’ outcome of the Iraqi-American Business Council’s delegation visit to Iraq last June, highlighting the government’s orientation towards boosting commercial relations and partnership between the private sector of both countries; and reviewing the government’s priorities on energy, renewable energy, desalination and cooperation in health sector between both countries’ institutes. ...... The President stressed the need to pursue the language of constructive dialogue among all parties to achieve security and peace, and ease tension and instability in both Arab and regional arenas, and to strengthen international and regional cooperation to end extremism and defeat terrorism once and for all.
