His Excellency Prime Minister Adil Abd Al-Mahdi received, this day, The SRSG for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, they discussed collaboration between Iraq and UN, the positive development which Iraq witnessed in the security, economy and the government plans to develop the economy sector, development, strengthening security, stability in the humanitarian field and IDP's issues.
The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi offered his condolences to the Iraqi people and the Islamic nation on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
“By the tenth of Muharram, we condolence the Iraqi people and the Islamic nation on the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his family (peace be upon them) in the timeless incident of Tuff area,” H.E. said.
President Salih expressed his deep condolences and sympathy to the families of those lost and injured during a stampede in Karbala today.
His Excellency called on all Iraqis to care for the families of those affected by this tragic incident.
During a phone call with Nassif Al-Khattabi, the Governor of Karbala, the President noted his deep appreciation for the efforts being made by the local government’s various departments to ensure those injured could be helped and assisted as quickly as possible. He was also moved by reports of individual citizens immediately working to help each other.
Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim gave the opening speech at the first session of the Ministerial Council at its 152nd regular session at the level of Foreign Ministers.
Minister Alhakim’s speech included an update on the situation in the Arab region, including: Iraq’s urging Arab and regional countries and the international community to support the new Sudanese government to achieve stability and maintain the unity of Sudan, stressing the continuation of support for the Palestinian issue, raising the momentum for demanding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and stopping the violations. Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with US Assistant of State Mr. David Schenker during which they discussed bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington and the importance of continuing to work for the common interests of both countries.
Minister Alhakim reviewed the government’s efforts in combating terrorism, and the threat it poses which requires concerted efforts by the international community to eradicate it, in addition to the efforts to rebuild Iraq’s infrastructure.
His Excellency Prime Minister Adil Abd Al-Mahdi received, this day, EU's delegation, during the meeting; they discussed mutual collaboration between Iraq and EU in the counter-terrorism file, exchange the views concerning how to deal with Daesh 's detainees' large number to face a fair trial in accordance with the law.
President Barham Salih welcomed Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Iraq, to the Presidential Office in Baghdad today.
The President emphasized the international organization’s critical role in Iraq, citing efforts the UN has made to support the democratic process across the country as well as highlighting the importance of Iraq as a potential trusted actor that could help reduce regional tension and consolidate international peace and security. Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim attended the start of the meeting of the Planning and Budget Committee of Asian Parliaments with the participation of a number of high-level government officials, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mr. Mohammed Halbousi , Members of the Council and ambassadors of countries accredited to Baghdad.
The conference aims to develop visions for security, peace and development for all countries, remove barriers to strengthen relations and activate common interests with the current situation in the region and Asia.
Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim received a phone call from the new British Foreign Secretary Mr. Dominic Raab.
Mr. Alhakim congratulated him on the occasion of his appointment as UK Foreign Secretary.
The two ministers discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in various fields, especially security and intelligence coordination and efforts to combat terrorism, and serve common interests Of the two friendly countries.
Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim summoned the Charge d’affaires at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Mr. Brian McFeeters in the absence of the US Ambassador in Iraq.
During the meeting they reviewed the progress of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington, and ways to strengthen them to serve the interests of the two countries, in addition to issues related to intelligence and military cooperation and the fight against terrorism according to the priorities of Iraq and the vision of the Commander in Chief of the Iraqi armed forces.
