WASHINGTON, DC – The Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security welcomed the Ambassador of Iraq, His Excellency Lukman Faily, at a roundtable discussion with fellow ambassadors from Chile, Czech Republic, Morocco and Singapore to discuss diplomacy beyond the nation-state with regards to the 2015 QDDR (Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review). Joining them in the discussion chaired by Atlantic Council President & CEO, Frederick Kempe was Hon. Paula Dobriansky and the Special Representative for the QDDR, Hon. Thomas Perriello.

President Salih sent a letter of condolences today to the national cultural and literary community upon hearing about the tragic passing of the Secretary General of the Union of Iraqi Writers, Ibrahim al-Khayat.
The following is the text of the condolence from President Salih:
In the name of Allah, most merciful and most gracious,
With heavy hearts, we are stunned to learn the tragic news about the passing of one of Iraq’s great writers and poets, Ibrahim al-Khayat.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Fareed Yasseen, participated in a seminar titled "Understanding the Iraqi Protests", held by the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies at Georgetown University.

The U.S. State Department supports a variety of educational programs, scholarships and opportunities for Iraqi scholars, students and professionals.

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United States hosted a group of members of the National Press Club and the International Correspondents Committee at a reception held at the embassy's headquarters reflecting Iraq's commitment to building and enhancing communication bridges with the external world. The event offered a unique platform for open dialogue and idea exchange between diplomats and international journalists.

The Embassy of Iraq and LA Consulate General will host a 2015 Mobile Consulate in the following states: California, Arizona, Texas, Washington.

Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Noori al-Maliki has arrived in the United States, where he will meet with President Obama at the White House and other officials in Washington to discuss the importance of the U.S.-Iraq relationship under the SFA; and the current challenges facing Iraq and the region.

Meeting with US Central Command Chief General Kenneth McKenzie today in Baghdad, President Salih highlighted the need to develop friendly relations between Iraq and US in addition to coordinate and collaborate in the fight against terrorism.
Furthermore, he underlined that Iraq will not be a theatre of regional and international conflicts.
We, therefore, seek to build good relations with all states and we have no interest in being dragged into conflicts not of our choice and making, President Salih added.

A tripartite meeting was held in Baghdad on 4 August 2019 and included Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Mohamad A.
