Iraqi President: High Standard of Scientific Level of Iraqi Universities Should Be Ensured, and Barriers Hindering University Professors and Students Should Be Overcome

On Monday, June 7, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Nabil Kazem Abdul Sahib. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
It is vital to ensure a high standard of scientific level of Iraqi universities and raise the academic education in Iraq, President Salih said, with focus on the need that the scientific independence of universities should be guaranteed.

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Braham Salih met with a number of Women survivors of Yazidi genocide who have been subjected to the most heinous violations and crimes of ISIS genocide. The meeting took place at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
President Salih was briefed by the members of the visiting delegation about the issues that they face.

Iraqi prime minister touts plan to retake Mosul, says ISIS is losing momentum

Claiming a victory in Ramadi over ISIS, Iraqi security forces now plan to retake Mosul.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told CNN's Christiane Amanpour that Iraqi military and local police forces will work together to make it happen. That cooperation will make it "much, much easier," he said.

He repeated his pledge to give ISIS the boot from Iraq in 2016 "like we surprised the world by liberating al Ramadi -- nobody thought we would, or we can, but we did."

Iraqi-born artist Wafaa Bilal is using an exhibit in Windsor, Ont., to resurrect a Baghdad Library

In the long history of cultural destruction caused by war in Iraq, the Art Gallery of Windsor, Ont., is the unlikely setting for a project of renewal.

Iraqi-born artist Wafaa Bilal hopes to restock a library that was set on fire in Baghdad in 2003. His plan is surprisingly indirect: he’s created book-like objects filled with blank white pages and will exchange them for real books that the library needs.

To make this work he’s counting on help from visitors to his new exhibition.
