This call reaffirms the importance of our national heritage as an integral part of our cultural and historical identity, which requires all of us to work together to protect and preserve it.

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari expressed Iraq's appreciation for the UN Secretary General's efforts to remove Iraq from Chapter VII sanctions and noted that Iraq has regained full sovereignty as an effective member in the international community through this resolution.

President Salih sent a letter of condolences today to the national cultural and literary community upon hearing about the tragic passing of the Secretary General of the Union of Iraqi Writers, Ibrahim al-Khayat.

In the name of Allah, most merciful and most gracious,
With heavy hearts, we are stunned to learn the tragic news about the passing of one of Iraq’s great writers and poets, Ibrahim al-Khayat.

President Salih visited with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings today.
His Excellency was pleased to hear about the Emir’s excellent health and Kuwait’s progress on a number of fronts.
The President wished His Highness good health and wellness, and extended a message to all Kuwaitis, wishing them progress and prosperity.
President Salih expressed Iraq's strong interest in regional stability so as to allow for the advancement of economic progress for all.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement on the death of Brigadier General Rafid Mohammed Hassan, an Iraqi student pilot whose F-16 fighter crashed near Douglas, Arizona during a training mission with the Arizona Air National Guard’s 162nd Wing:
