Foreign Minister Al-Jaafari Meets Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Walid Al-Moallem, and discussed ways to enhance Iraqi-Syrian relations to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples and efforts exerted in combating terrorism.

Dr. Jaafari stressed during the meeting held in Damascus the depth of relations between Baghdad and Damascus based on the common interests and dangers that face the two brotherly peoples, pointing out that Iraq is keen to open new horizons for cooperation in all fields, especially in the field of counter-terrorism in order to preserve the achievements of Iraqis and Syrians in their war against Daesh terrorist gangs. In addition Minister Al-Jaafari called on intensifying dialogues to hold meetings of the Joint Iraqi-Syrian Committee during the coming period.

On his part, Mr Waleed Al-Moallem stressed his country's keenness to enhance joint cooperation with Iraq in various fields based on the depth of relations between the two countries. He praised Iraq's support for Syria in Arab and international forums and in the war against terrorism, calling for the importance of continuing coordination and upgrading relations to a strategic level in the coming phase to cover all areas and to promote the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
