Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Chairperson of the Council of the Federation Committee on Foreign Affairs Mr. Konstantin Kosachev in Moscow on Thursday, 31 January 2019.
Minister Alhakim welcomed the activation of parliamentary visits between the foreign relations committees of the Iraqi Council of Representatives and Russian Federation Council and stressed the need to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, pointing out that Russian support for Iraq was very important in defeating terrorism.
Minister Alhakim added that Iraq attributes great attention to neighboring countries as a point of convergence and is working to increase investment in various sectors for the reconstruction of liberated cities pointing out that Iraq's relations with Russia, United States and Iran, as well as other friendly countries in the world are not at odds but are a point of power.
Minister Alhakim pointed out that Iraq is directly affected by the Syrian situation, and welcomes the efforts that will help the Syrian people restore security and stability of the country.
On his part, Mr. Kosachev stressed the Russian Federation's support for Iraq in the post Da'esh phase and maintaining its unity and sovereignty, and stated that we are ready to visit Iraq with a delegation from Russian Federation Council stressing that relations between the Iraqi Council of Representatives and the Russian Federation Council is very important an should be developed in this aspect.
