In the name of Allah, most merciful and most gracious
Among the believers are men true to what they promised Allah. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow [to the death], and among them is he who awaits [his chance]. And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] by any alteration.

Our hearts hurt deeply from having to hear the tragic news about the martyrdom of the two commanders, Head of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' elite Quds Force (IRGC), Gen. Qassem Soleimani and Deputy Commander of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandes those who played a significant and crucial role and showed the most wonderful pictures of altruism in fighting against ISIS.
We condemn this aggression targeted high-ranking security commanders, those formally belonged to Iraq's military institution. It will undoubtedly have negative consequences on Iraq's security, stability and the region as well, if the wise men do not take initiative and raise a rational solution, further try to contain the effects of the aggression, which would clearly jeopardize the peace over Iraq and the region.
We call upon all parties to exercise self-restraint. Therefore, it is necessary to let the voice of reason and logic to be heard. National interests need to be priority.
In view of this exceptional situation, our duty is to stick to our unity, to close ranks, to overcome the disagreements in order to protect the supreme national interests. Furthermore, we have to protect Iraq's sovereignty and security and to save Iraq and its people from the scourge of armed conflicts ravaged the people over four decades. Its effect is a wound that is never fully healed in the hearts of people so far.
Glory and immortality for martyrs and for those who gave their blood for Iraq to protect its soil.
May their souls rest in peace. We pray to the Almighty for inspiring their families and their friends the patience and solace.

We belong to Allah, and to Him shall we return.
Barham Salih,
President of the Republic.
