Foreign Minister Receives Call from Secretary of State Kerry

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari discussed bilateral cooperation on Syria during a call he received from U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on September 17, 2013.

The Minister and the Secretary discussed the results of the UN investigation on the use of chemical weapons in Ghouta suburb of Rif Dimashq. Foreign Minister Zebari reaffirmed Iraq's support for the recent agreement between the United States and Russia on chemical weapons disarmament in Syria and emphasized the need for a political solution to the crisis consistent with the framework of the proposed Geneva II conference.

The Foreign Minister and the Secretary also touched on the need to hold bilateral meetings on regional developments and Iraq's role in supporting efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
