Baghdad exhibit celebrates 100 women artists

The Iraqi Plastic Arts Association recently celebrated the work of Iraqi women artists through a display of over 100 pieces of artwork in Baghdad. The third annual event featured artwork of female artists who addressed themes including the role of Iraqi women as well as their ability to adapt to the various circumstances in Iraq.

Head of the Iraqi Plastic Arts Association, Qassim al-Sebti, said, “The works of Iraqi female artists show that they are keeping pace with global trends as their exhibit reflected different artistic styles, such as abstraction, impressionism, realism and symbolic realism.”

For many the exhibit represented a success not only for the women, but also the triumph of beauty and art over the violence and darkness of terrorism.
