Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Secretary General Mr. Jens Stoltenberg on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum in Switzerland.
Minister Alhakim praised NATO’s support for the Iraqi forces in its war against Da’esh terrorist gangs and stated that it is time now for a practical strategic cooperation aimed at developing the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces and their institutions and providing assistance in a number of important military areas, expressing Iraq's desire to strengthen and develop them in a manner that supports common objectives to address security challenges in the region.
Minister Alhakim touched upon the various security challenges facing the region and Iraq's efforts in the fight against terrorism, stressing the importance of eradicating the root causes of terrorism by fighting extremist ideology and drying up financial support. Minister Alhakim pointed out to Iraq's battle to liberate the land from Da’esh terrorist gangs and sacrifices made with the blood of Iraq’s sons, and the finest of its youth.
