Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim Meets German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen

Foreign Minister Mohamed A. Alhakim met with German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen during the Davos World Economic Forum.

The meeting reviewed the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Berlin, in addition to ways of strengthening them to the benefit of the two friendly peoples, as well as reviewing the efforts and sacrifices made by the Iraqis in their war against Da’esh terrorist gangs and the international efforts supporting Iraq.

Minister Alhakim stated : The efforts of the international community should be combined to eliminate extremism and terrorism, and pointed out that the support of friendly countries contributed significantly to the victory of Iraq on terrorism.

Minister Alhakim expressed the aspiration of Iraq for the continued support of the international community, and friendly countries in the reconstruction stage of cities liberated from Da’esh terrorist gangs.

Minister Alhakim expressed the appreciation to Iraq for the position of Berlin in support of Iraq’s security and stability, including: training Iraqi security forces.

On her part, the German Defense Minister Ms. Ursula von der Leyen expressed her admiration for the performance of the Iraqi forces, their ability to build and organize themselves and counter terrorism. And also expressed the admiration for the ability of the Iraqi people to join forces in confronting the dangers that face Iraq and to cooperate in building liberated cities. The German Minister also expressed her country’s support for Iraq and its government and respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
