Foreign Minister Receives French Counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian

Foreign Minister Mohamed A. Alhakim received French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian at the Ministry's Headquarters in Baghdad.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and issues of interest to the two friendly countries and the forthcoming visit of President Emmanuel Macron to Iraq.

Minister Al-Hakim stressed the importance of developing common relations between the two countries, praising the important and vital role that France played in supporting Iraq in confronting terrorism through the Global coalition, as well as in the humanitarian, cultural and educational aspects . Minister Alhakim also expressed the hope that France will participate in the reconstruction of the areas liberated from Da’esh terrorists gangs.

Minister Alhakim also commended the initiative of the France’s Europe and Foreign Affairs Ministry to form a follow-up team headed by the Minister to encourage French companies to invest in Iraq.

On his part, Minister Le Drian stressed the importance of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, hoping for further development and cooperation in the economic, security, military and cultural fields, stressing France's full support to guarantee Iraq's unity, security and sovereignty.
