Foreign Minister Receives Phone Call from his Belgian Counterpart

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received a phone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, H.E. Mrs. Sophie Wilmès,

Mr. Hussien congratulated his counterpart on the occasion of assuming her position as Minister of Foreign Affairs, wishing her success in fulfilling her duties.

The two sides discussed the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations and elevating them to what meets the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.

The Minister expressed his appreciation to the Belgian government for its stances in support of Iraq in its war against ISIS terrorist groups, calling for the importance of continuing support until the ideology that produced these terrorist groups is eliminated, stressing the importance of strengthening work and uniting international efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria, due to its direct impact on security and regional stability, and this is reflected on the security and stability of Iraq, calling for addressing the humanitarian situation of families in Al-Hol camp in Syria, and preventing ISIS from penetrating camps for the displaced, spreading its terrorist ideology, and re-organizing itself.
The Iraqi government’s decision to hold free and fair elections was also discussed, explaining that Iraq has sent a letter to the Security Council to provide support and send observers to hold the elections in due course.
The two ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest with the emphasis on the need to work to reduce tension and achieve peace in the region, and to avoid escalation that will not serve either party.
The Minister touched on the importance of concerted efforts to confront the repercussions of the viral pandemic as it represents a global challenge that has negatively affected the general aspects of life, and the global situation has improved with the discovery of the vaccine, which in turn led to an improvement in oil prices.
On her part, Mrs. Wilmès offered her sincere condolences to the government and people of Iraq for the martyrdom of a number of Iraqis following the terrorist acts that targeted Iraq recently, expressing the solidarity of Belgian government and its people, with Iraq in its war against terrorism.
Referring to the Belgian government’s decision to send a new mission to Iraq to assist in dealing with ISIS families and children.
In conclusion, Mrs. Wilmès extended an invitation Mr. Hussien to visit Belgium.
