Foreign Ministry Holds Memorial Ceremony for Martyrs of Terrorist Attack in 2009

The Foreign Ministry held a memorial service in memory of the Ministry's martyrs who died in the terrorist bombing in 2009 and in the memory of the death of the UN Secretary-General's representative Mr.Sergio De Mello in the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad.

Excellency Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari gave a speech in the presence of Minister of Defense Mr. Irfan Al-Hayali, Minister of Interior Mr. Qassim Al-Araji and a number of ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Baghdad.

Excellency Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari stated that the martyrs of the Foreign Ministry symbolize that the enemy did not differentiate between Shia's or Sunni's, Arab or Kurds Muslims and non-Muslims, men and women, " so our enemies do not differentiate between us, and when we remember them, we remember those who gave us the value of victory, and the value of the unity we live in" .

Excellency Minister also added: Iraq proved to be victorious when it relied on its strength and God and on itself and on friendly and fraternal countries, and that the value of support extended to Iraq from all friendly countries was very great in the difficult circumstances that Iraq experienced, adding that the Foreign Ministry has made every effort to promote good relations with the countries of the world, not excluding a state.

Minister also added that on August 19, 2009, the bombing took place in the Foreign Ministry and on the same day in 2001, we also lost the late UN Secretary-General Mr. Sergio De Mello, who supported Iraq in forming the first Iraqi government.

His Excellency stated "I do not understand the international organizations that boycot the people and countries and governments , because he who trusts himself must come to the table of dialogue . Governments change, rulers change, but people remain steadfast throughout history. Nations and peoples remain alive and well"
