The Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education recently announced it has created 19 new colleges and 36 new departments at a number of universities in Baghdad and other provinces.

The move is part of a plan to increase scientific specialisations and keep up with modern higher education studies in developed countries, the ministry said.

The new faculties feature scientific specialisations that are new to Iraqi universities, such as the environment, genetic engineering and various branches of the humanities, said Deputy Minister of Higher Education Salam Hassan.
