Foreign Minister Meets Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia-ESCWA in New York

Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met with Mr. Mohammed Ali Al-Hakim, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) on the margins of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York and reviewed the overall situation in the Iraqi arena.

Dr. Al-Jaafari expressed thanks and appreciation of Iraq for the efforts made by the United Nations in its endorsement in various fields, expressing Baghdad's aspiration to expand areas of cooperation and provide more support to achieve security, stability and development. He also pointed out that the Foreign Ministry is ready to provide services that will facilitate the work of the United Nations teams to assist Iraq.

On his part, Mr. Mohammed Ali Al-Hakim, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia-ESCWA, stressed the continued support of Iraq in various fields stating that the next phase will witness the signing of new cooperation agreements to adopt programs of action to support Iraq and achieve sustainable development. ESCWA is working on training Iraqi staff, and the use of international expertise in Iraq, revealing a visit to Iraq in the framework of opening new horizons for joint cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations.
