Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs and NATO Secretary General Stress Necessity for Continued Coordination and Joint Action between NATO and Iraq within the Framework of Iraq’s Sovereignty

Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein received a phone call from the Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jans Stoltenberg in which the latter congratulated the Minister on the success of the historic visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Iraq, as the visit gave a positive and attractive image of Iraqi society. It also showed Good security organization in different parts of Iraq.
In another aspect, both sides discussed ways to continue cooperation between Iraq and NATO within the framework of the full sovereignty of Iraq and the decisions of the Iraqi government.
The Secretary General of NATO confirmed that the role of NATO’s personnel is limited to aspects of training and providing logistical support to the Iraqi security forces.
The two sides also agreed to continue coordination in a way that enhances the joint work to combat ISIS terrorist groups.
The Secretary-General invited the Minister to participate in the next virtual meeting of all NATO ambassadors, which will be held in the coming days, to shed light on the political and security situation in Iraq and its relations with the countries of the region. In turn, the Minister thanked the Secretary-General and accepted the invitation.
