THE PRESIDENT RECEIVES THE TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER

President Barham Salih received the Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Gawishoglu, in Erbil, Monday, June 10, 2019, and discussed with him the latest political developments in the region.
During the meeting, they emphasized the need for cooperation and coordination as well as the adoption of keen dialogue among all parties in order to unify efforts to address the current crises and to steer clear of the language of threat so that the peoples of the region enjoy stability, security and economic prosperity.

The President Mourns with Victims of Anfal Genocide

President Salih met today with dozens of family members who lost loved ones during the infamous Anfal genocide of the 1980s.

Taking care to listen to all their concerns in the Al Salam Palace in Baghdad, the President stated clearly that this violence was a genocidal act aimed at the Kurdish people and will forever be a wound that is never fully healed in the hearts of all Iraqis. His Excellency Prime Minister Dr.Haider Al-Abadi has received a phone call from U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

During the meeting, they have discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in various economic, service and security fields, as well as the unity, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq

The coordination of efforts to eliminate the Daesh remnant in Syrian territory near the Iraqi border was also discussed.

President Arrives in Erbil

President Salih arrived in Erbil this afternoon.
His Excellency was received by Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, President of Iraqi Kurdistan Region, and Mr. Firsat Sofi, the Governor of Erbil, at the Erbil International Airport, along with various senior staff.
President Salih plans on holding meetings with a number of senior officials in the Kurdistan Region to discuss lingering issues between the Federal Iraqi Government and the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government.

Speaker Jabouri urges Erbil to remain committed to Iraq

Speaker of the Council of Representative, Dr. Salim al-Jabouri, spoke at the annual MERI conference in Erbil on Wednesday.
The speaker of Iraqi Parliament urged the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to remain committed to a federal Iraq.
Recognizing the importance of the KRG in attracting foreign investment and its role in sheltering an estimated 1.5 million internally displaced people (IDPs), Jabouri appealed for the KRG to consider their mutual interests and remain committed to a federal Iraq.

Conference TARII

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington held an evening reception for a group of Iraqi and foreign professors and researchers who participated in the TARII Conference, a conference in which the embassy participated and discussed over two days (3-4 November) the various pieces of research regarding Iraq's history and its present culture. During the reception, Professor Peter Wynne, President of TARII, was recognized for his efforts in promoting academic cooperation between research institutions and researchers from Iraq and the United States.
