President Salih Meets Bulgarian President, Discusses Bilateral Ties

His Excellency President Salih received Bulgarian President Rumen Radev today in New York City on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The two presidents discussed Iraqi-Bulgarian ties, as well as ways to improve mutual cooperation in a variety of fields. The two friendly nations, they agreed, can work together on a variety of international as well as regional issues of common concern.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security welcomed the Ambassador of Iraq, His Excellency Lukman Faily, at a roundtable discussion with fellow ambassadors from Chile, Czech Republic, Morocco and Singapore to discuss diplomacy beyond the nation-state with regards to the 2015 QDDR (Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review). Joining them in the discussion chaired by Atlantic Council President & CEO, Frederick Kempe was Hon. Paula Dobriansky and the Special Representative for the QDDR, Hon. Thomas Perriello.

Reconstruction Board Bill Sent to Parliament After Approval by Council of Ministers

On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, the Council of Ministers approved the draft law that would create a Reconstruction Board. It will now be jointly submitted to the House of Representatives by the Presidency of the Republic and the Council of Ministers.
The draft law provides a framework for quickly launching major infrastructure projects across the country, including roads, bridges, airports, and seaports.
The draft law also aims at alleviating general unemployment by promoting investment, employing a wide array of capable individuals in a variety of different sectors.

Press Release

In the aim of enhancing confidence in the electoral process, achieving wide participation in the elections, and ensuring integrity and organization, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2576, to renew the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), until May 27, 2022.
The resolution contains strong elements, adopted for the first time to send a UN team to monitor elections in Iraq.
