Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Adil Al-Jubair.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and means of strengthening them to achieve common interests , and the regional and international issues of concern to the two brotherly countries. Minister Alhakim called for the importance of concerted efforts to resolve the crises effecting the region.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met with UN Secretary General Mr. António Guterres on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The meeting reviewed the security, regional, international and political developments in Iraq, and the role played by the United Nations in Iraq , in addition to the importance of further efforts, coordination to assist Iraq in reconstruction, the return of displaced families to their areas of residence and support for security and stability.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq to discuss the political developments taking place in the Iraqi arena and the UN efforts in support of Iraq.

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the US Ambassador to Baghdad Mr. Matthew Tueller.

The two sides discussed ways to improve the prospects of bilateral and strategic relations between Baghdad and Washington, and the importance of activating means of bilateral cooperation in order to achieve the interests of both friendly countries.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with his US counterpart Mr. Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Da’esh in Washington.

The two sides discussed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations at all levels. They also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and the importance of intensifying consultations on regional issues and the challenges facing their stability.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamed A. Alhakim met with the High Representative of the European Commission Vice-President Ms. Federica Mogherini. The meeting discussed the relations between Iraq and the EU. The meeting also discussed the importance of strengthening the Iraq-EU partnership.

The two sides stated that the Partnership Agreement, which entered into force in August 2018, will strengthen cooperation frameworks in many fields, including human rights, economic, energy, security, transport and environment issues.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah on the sidelines of his participation in the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit held in Beirut.

Minister Alhakim expressed the great interest Baghdad attributes to the Palestinian issue and its implications for the security and stability of the Arab region reiterating the firm Iraqi position that is based on the establishment of a Palestinian state with Alquds as its capital.

Another crime is added to the record of terrorism, the one that claimed the lives of dozens of martyrs and injured many other Iraqi citizens.

We condemn the terrorist operation that took place in Baghdad today, Thursday January 21st and affirm that the Iraqi government will take all means to fight the remnants of terrorism, and is determined to continue to complete the war against its groups.
