PRESIDENT, ADDRESSING IRAQ'S PEOPLE, AGREES ON HOLDING SNAP ELECTIONS BY ADOPTING NEW ELECTORAL LAW AND FRESH ELECTORAL COMMISSION

President Salih confirmed that he would approve early elections by adopting to the new electoral Law and a new Electoral Commission.

Addressing the Iraqis People on Thursday evening, President Salih said that, "The Prime Minister had agreed to resign, asking political blocs to agree on appointing an acceptable alternative, taking into their considerations the constitutional and legal contexts that would prevent a constitutional void."

The resolution contains strong elements, adopted for the first time to send a UN team to monitor elections in Iraq.

The General Assembly of the League of Nations agreed on October 3, 1932, to accept Iraq as a member of the League of Nations upon the request submitted by the Iraqi Kingdom with the signature of former Prime Minister Nouri Pasha Al-Saeed on July 12, 1932, becoming the first Arab country to join this international organization at the time.
