Ambassador Faily sat down with Voice of America last week to discuss the latest developments in Iraq. He discussed the ongoing situation in Anbar and disputed the prevailing sectarian narrative, noting the Iraqi government's "evenhanded" approach to tackling extremist groups throughout the country.

Ambassador Faily stressed that Iraq and the United States were cooperating at the highest levels to ensure that Iraq is equipped to fight Al-Qaeda militants. He highlighted aspects of the strategic partnership including cooperation on counter-terrorism and technology-transfer.

Ambassador Faily was welcomed as guest of honor at the Diplomacy Matters Institute Ambassador’s Series luncheon, where he spoke about the rebuilding efforts in Iraq.

Ambassador Lukman Faily issued a statement on the Iraqi Cabinet’s approval of draft laws establishing a National Guard and amending Iraq’s Accountability and Justice law, otherwise known as de-Baathification.

“Today, Parliament voted overwhelmingly for Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s broad-based, unity government in Baghdad drawn from all segments of Iraqi society."
