Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamed A. Alhakim met in Amman with Jordanian Foreign Minister Mr. Ayman Al- Safadi during a quick visit of Excellency President Barham Salih accompanied by the Foreign Minister and several officials. This meeting comes as a follow-up to Minister Ayman Al-Safadi's visit to Baghdad, which took place a few days ago.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met in Tehran with Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sidelines of the visit of Excellency President Barham Salih to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Minister Zarif congratulated Minister Alhakim on the occasion of assuming the post of Foreign Minister in the new Iraqi government, wishing him success in his mission.

During the meeting the efforts and sacrifices made by Iraq in combating terrorism and eliminating terrorist groups were praised.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Syrian Foreign Minister Mr. Walid Al-Moallem on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
Minister Alhakim affirmed the depth of Iraqi-Syrian relations, and Iraq’s adherence to elevating them to broader prospects that serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples, noting the convergence of views on the need to adopt political solutions to resolve crises and not to interfere in the affairs of other countries.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two brotherly countries, and ways to activate cooperation in various fields, including the political and economic fields, especially in the field of establishing industrial zones, electrical connectivity and investment companies.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Muhammad Javad Zarif, and discussed bilateral relations, Minister Alhakim expressed Iraq’s keenness to establish strong relations with neighbouring countries, to stay away from bias policy and to avoid any regional and international conflicts.

Minister Alhakim stressed the need to expedite the process of appointing the Ambassador of Iraq to the Republic of Cyprus, and called for the convening of the quartet meeting of foreign ministers: Iraq, Jordan, Greece and Cyprus; in line with what was agreed at the tripartite summit held in Amman on 14/4/2019, Minister Alhakim pointed to the importance of the World Conference on Reconstruction and Development in Iraq scheduled to be held in Nicosia from 6-12 12/2019.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Austrian Foreign Minister Mr. Alexander Schallenberg. The meeting discussed the resumption of the joint Iraqi-Austrian committee meetings as a framework to activate bilateral cooperation between Baghdad and Vienna.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq (UNAMI) Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

During the meeting, they discussed ways of bilateral cooperation between Baghdad and the United Nations Mission, as well as the latest developments in the political situation in Iraq and the region.

Ms. Plasschaert expressed the willingness of the UN mission in Baghdad to provide support to Iraq as part of strengthening efforts to combat the Coronavirus.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met in Washington with Mr. Karim Khan, head of the investigation team on crimes of Da’esh in Iraq.

The meeting discussed the role of the UN investigation team in collecting and storing evidence that criminalizes Da’esh terrorist gangs and keeping them in Iraq to ensure the rights of Iraqi victims of different faiths, ethnicities and sects in the liberated areas and the Iraqi martyrs who sacrificed themselves for their land and people.
