Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim received a phone call from British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Andrew Morrison. The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region, the situation in Iraq, and the government’s measures to meet the demands of the demonstrators through the reforms launched by the government.

With the continuation of the popular protests calling for reform, and the issuance of statements by foreign countries and international organisations, the Iraqi government affirms the respect of the will of Iraqis to claim their rights guaranteed by the Iraqi Constitution in articles 38, 39 and 40, which prove the right of Iraqis to choose their government in accordance with the contexts in force in the Iraqi democratic system and their rights guaranteed in the Constitution for freedom of expression “without prejudice to public order and morals”.

President Salih confirmed that he would approve early elections by adopting to the new electoral Law and a new Electoral Commission.

Addressing the Iraqis People on Thursday evening, President Salih said that, "The Prime Minister had agreed to resign, asking political blocs to agree on appointing an acceptable alternative, taking into their considerations the constitutional and legal contexts that would prevent a constitutional void."

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, signed a framework agreement for diplomatic cooperation between the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute and the Dutch Clingendael Institute.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim participated in the 6th Istanbul Mediation Conference which is taking place in Turkey with the participation of representatives from different countries of the world.

The conference will discuss mediation, efforts to resolve disputes through peaceful means, and prepare guidelines . In addition, experts, researchers and academics from around the world will seek ways to promote the use of mediation as an important means of preventing conflicts and finding solutions through diplomacy.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Dutch Minister of Migration Ms. Ankie Broekers. During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of cooperation between the Migration Ministries of both countries. Minister Alhakim expressed Baghdad’s keenness to seek opportunities to exchange common interests between the two friendly peoples in the field of capacity building, skills, knowledge , border management, development of port control staff, authentication of travel documents, and the adoption of advanced and modern techniques in this regard.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Dutch Prime Minister Mr. Mark Rutte, and conveyed the greeting of President Mr. Barham Saleh, and Prime Minister Mr. Adil Abdul Mahdi.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of combating terrorism and the issue of foreign terrorist fighters. They also discussed the support and training of Iraqi security forces by the Dutch side.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with the Foreign Relations Committee of the Dutch Parliament.

Minister Alhakim discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the measures taken by the Iraqi government to meet the demands of the youth and maintain security, calling on the Dutch side to open new prospects for cooperation in order to promote the Iraqi economy and provide job opportunities through stimulating investment in the productive sectors, especially agriculture, industry and reconstruction of liberated areas

Iraqi Ambassador to the United States Fareed Yasseen released the following statement regarding the successful military operation against ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, in Syria:

“Today justice prevailed. The brutal leader of ISIS, the most evil terrorist organization of today, has met his end. We would like to express our gratitude to the U.S. military personnel who carried out the daring raid in Syria that led to this outcome.
