"Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the terrorist attack that targeted St George church in Tanta, Egypt. The ministry shares the pain and sorrow of the Egyptian Government and its people in this heinous crime and extends its deepest condolences to the families of martyrs, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met in Washington with Mr. Karim Khan, head of the investigation team on crimes of Da’esh in Iraq.

The meeting discussed the role of the UN investigation team in collecting and storing evidence that criminalizes Da’esh terrorist gangs and keeping them in Iraq to ensure the rights of Iraqi victims of different faiths, ethnicities and sects in the liberated areas and the Iraqi martyrs who sacrificed themselves for their land and people.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Muhammad Javad Zarif, and discussed bilateral relations, Minister Alhakim expressed Iraq’s keenness to establish strong relations with neighbouring countries, to stay away from bias policy and to avoid any regional and international conflicts.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim said that the Iraqi judiciary is committed to prosecuting Iraqi terrorists, and foreigners who committed crimes in Iraq, and is not responsible for prosecuting foreigners in Syria for crimes committed against non-Iraqis.

A ceremony was held at the Foreign Ministry to hand over the position of the Foreign Minister to Mr. Fouad Hussein in the presence of former Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim, the Ministry’s Undersecretaries and Heads of Departments.
Minister Fuad Hussein assured that the Ministry will move towards promoting balanced relations based on achieving the interests of Iraq, achieving the aspirations of Iraqi people, and implementing foreign policy issues within the governmental program.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Syrian Foreign Minister Mr. Walid Al-Moallem on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.
Minister Alhakim affirmed the depth of Iraqi-Syrian relations, and Iraq’s adherence to elevating them to broader prospects that serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples, noting the convergence of views on the need to adopt political solutions to resolve crises and not to interfere in the affairs of other countries.

Iraq and EU strongly affirm their shared commitment to peace and stability in the wider Middle East and call for the de-escalation of the current tensions in the region, reminding that the risks and the consequences may affect Iraq, the region and beyond. The EU and Iraq share a common vision for the region and wish to proactively support actions and initiatives to promote dialogue instead of confrontation, aiming to build a cooperative framework based on shared interests. Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with the Foreign Relations Committee of the Dutch Parliament.

Minister Alhakim discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the measures taken by the Iraqi government to meet the demands of the youth and maintain security, calling on the Dutch side to open new prospects for cooperation in order to promote the Iraqi economy and provide job opportunities through stimulating investment in the productive sectors, especially agriculture, industry and reconstruction of liberated areas

​With great sorrow and sadness, we mourns Iraq's diseased former president Jalal Talabani (May God have mercy on him) who was truly a sincere son to Iraq, keen to its unity, security and independency. He has given lots of sacrifices and did the best he could for the country. How Iraq needs such wishful person in consolidating and mend fences. With this painful catastrophe, we present condolences to his family and all Iraqi people, asking God to give them power to sustain this catastrophe.
