Japan donates $90m for Iraqi refugees

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Japan has given an estimated $90 million to a United Nation's campaign to help displaced Iraqis, becoming the program's main contributor, the UN said on Friday.

The program, called UN-Habitat, promotes socially and environmentally secure places for displaced people in crisis.

“It is to enhance self-reliance and improve their living conditions through the provision of prefabricated durable shelters and basic services in Baghdad, Duhok and Karbala province,” the UN-Habitat announced in a statement.

Prime Minister Al-Abadi Receives Phone Call from U.S. Vice President Biden

His Excellency Prime Minister Dr. Haider Al-Abadi received a phone call on May 25, 2015 from United States Vice President Mr. Joe Biden. Prime Minister Al-Abadi and Vice President Biden discussed increasing support and training for Iraqi forces, intensifying air strikes, and expediting armament to the Iraqi forces. University of Arkansas signs its third Iraqi school deal

For the third time within the past 11 months, the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville has signed a cooperative agreement with an Iraqi university.

In a formal agreement announced Thursday, UA and the University of Sulaimani will "work to create programs for exchanging academic, research and other educational materials," the announcement from UA states. The agreement also calls for the development of opportunities for the Iraqi university to send students to UA.
