On September 8, 2014, Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi’s new government outlined a broad agenda designed to unite the country as it faces an existential threat from Daesh. This agenda is based on a number of key measures that seek to reform and reinvigorate the country’s socioeconomic, political and military institutions.

The Middle East Institute and the Conflict Management Program at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies welcomed Ambassador Lukman Faily, and Abbas Kadhim for a discussion about Iraq and its future.

Statement by the Press Secretary on the Visit of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi of Iraq

"We need and will rebuild Iraq; and we will turn the page on such horrific actions as the massacre and genocide at Halabja," said Ambassador Lukman Faily during a commemoration event at the U.S. Capitol.

Speaking from Baghdad in an exclusive interview with ABC's "This Week", Prime Minister al-Abadi said the government is eager to liberate ISIS-controlled areas as soon as possible.

Ambassador Lukman Faily delivered remarks at George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and General Lloyd Austin discussed ways to expand military and intelligence cooperation, increase airstrikes and intensify training to enhance the victories achieved in various fronts of confrontation with Daesh.

The extreme Islamist group ISIS is being pushed back, the Iraqi Prime Minister told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Thursday.

"As we affirm our determination to ensure that Christians remain our brothers and partners in the rebuilding of Iraq, we pledge to them our utmost efforts to achieve this goal and to cleanse all Iraqi towns from Daesh so that all displaced people can return to their homes in dignity and with their constitutional rights and freedoms intact."
