Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Chrystia Freeland on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Da’esh in Washington.

The meeting focused on the relations of cooperation between the two countries and means of strengthening them in various fields, as well as discussing regional issues of common concern.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim received a copy of the credentials of US Ambassador to Baghdad Mr. Matthew Tyler. The two sides discussed ways to improve bilateral relations and the importance of enhancing cooperation opportunities at various levels to meet the aspiration of both peoples.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim received a phone call from Pakistani Foreign Minister Mr. Mehmood Qureshi. The call discussed the latest developments in Iraq and its implications for the region.
The ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Baghdad and Islamabad were also discussed, stressing the importance of advancing their development in various fields in a way that achieves the common interests of the two friendly countries, and enhancing consultation on issues of common concern.

Based on the strong rooted and historical brotherly ties that unite the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and their brotherly peoples, and to strengthen the distinguished relations between them, a video conference meeting was held between Mr.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Dutch Minister of Migration Ms. Ankie Broekers. During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of cooperation between the Migration Ministries of both countries. Minister Alhakim expressed Baghdad’s keenness to seek opportunities to exchange common interests between the two friendly peoples in the field of capacity building, skills, knowledge , border management, development of port control staff, authentication of travel documents, and the adoption of advanced and modern techniques in this regard.

Since the beginning of the crisis of the outbreak of the pandemic of Covid-19, the Foreign Ministry worked in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport to organize an air route to rescue Iraqi travelers stranded in countries where the pandemic has occurred, and we have also worked on forming crisis cells in cooperation with our embassies abroad to monitor the infected among the Iraqi communities, track their health conditions and secure supplies for their families to alleviate their suffering.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Mr. Filippo Grandi in Geneva on the sidelines of the 40th session of the Human Rights Council.
