Foreign Minister Meets British Secretary of State for Middle East and North Africa Affairs in New York

Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met with British Secretary of State for Middle East and North Africa Mr. Alistair Burt on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The meeting reviewed the progress of bilateral relations between Baghdad and London and means of strengthening them to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

Minister Al-Jaafari stated that Iraq has emerged victorious in its war against Daesh terrorist gangs with the support of friendly countries, and looks forward to continuous support in the reconstruction of the Iraqi cities.

Minister Al-Jaafari also stated that Britain has contributed in the recent stage to training Iraqi staff in several fields. Stressing the need to continue work, coordination and exchange of experiences between the two countries and increasing trade cooperation and investment in Iraq.

On his part, Secretary Alistair Burt stressed his country's keenness to support Iraq in various fields, expressing the aspiration of his government to complete the necessary steps to form the new Iraqi government in the coming days to preserve the achievements of great victories against terrorism in addition to eliminating corruption and the providing investment opportunities for British companies to work in Iraq.
