President Receives Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq

President Barham Salih welcomed Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Iraq, to the Presidential Office in Baghdad today.
The President emphasized the international organization’s critical role in Iraq, citing efforts the UN has made to support the democratic process across the country as well as highlighting the importance of Iraq as a potential trusted actor that could help reduce regional tension and consolidate international peace and security. Iraq would welcome such a role, he added.
His Excellency added that all Iraqis from across the country look forward to a new era where security, stability and prosperity are the norm and are secured.
Plasschaert reiterated the UN’s support for Iraq in different sectors, and noted that the UN will continue to provide advice and assistance, particularly with regard to the repatriation of internally displaced peoples.
