The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission has announced the polling stations in the United States to serve Iraqi voters in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Appointed-Ambassador Lukman Faily and Mrs. Lameis Faily hosted a dinner at their Residence in honor of a delegation of five senior Iraqi government officials and civil society leaders visiting Washington, DC. Ambassador and Mrs. Faily were pleased to welcome Mr. Midhat Al-Mahmood, Chief Justice, Iraqi Higher Judicial Council and the accompanying delegation.

The Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi met the US Vice President Mike Pence.

The meeting discussed the relations between Baghdad and Washington, files of mutual interest and continued cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Efforts to eliminate terrorism, combat extremist ideology, eliminate funding sources and the continue of US-led international coalition to provide security and intelligence support to Iraq were also discussed.

Ambassador Faily visited headquarters of Google, Cisco, and Qualcomm as part of his business outreach initiative to promote the many investment opportunities and partnerships available between Iraq and the United States.

During the session, Minister al-Jaafari will deliver remarks to outline the Iraqi government's efforts in the war against the terrorists of the so-called Islamic State.

The High Coordination Committee (HCC) meetings between Iraq and the United States have commenced, aimed at activating the Strategic Framework Agreement. The Iraqi delegation is led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Mr. Mohammed Tamim, while the U.S. delegation is chaired by Secretary of State, Mr. Antony Blinken.

In the aim of enhancing confidence in the electoral process, achieving wide participation in the elections, and ensuring integrity and organization, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2576, to renew the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), until May 27, 2022.
The resolution contains strong elements, adopted for the first time to send a UN team to monitor elections in Iraq.

BAGHDAD (Jan. 18, 2017) – The Republic of Iraq today completed the issuance of an $1 billion 5-year Guaranteed bond priced at the level of 27 basis points over 5-year US Treasury Notes with a coupon of 2.149 percent per year, payable semi-annually. The Notes benefit from a full faith and credit guarantee of the United States, acting through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
