Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with Mr. Adam Kinzinger, US Congressman and member of the House Committee for Foreign Affaires and Iraq Friendship Committee in the US Congress on 7, Feb. 2019 at the US Congress.

Minister Alhakim stressed that the foundations of Iraqi foreign policy are based on the principle of openness to neighboring countries and the world, and avoiding the axis of conflict and explained that Iraq today is a place of meeting, not conflict , and that work is ongoing to achieve the aspirations of the people.

The Iraqi government categorically renews its rejection and condemnation of any act that destabilizes the security and stability of diplomatic missions in Iraq, especially what the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Consulate in Karbala has been went recently through.
As we draw attention to the government’s actions during the past few days in this regard, we point out the continuation of investigations to uncover the identity of the perpetrators and taking appropriate measures to reach the results.

Since the beginning of the crisis of the outbreak of the pandemic of Covid-19, the Foreign Ministry worked in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport to organize an air route to rescue Iraqi travelers stranded in countries where the pandemic has occurred, and we have also worked on forming crisis cells in cooperation with our embassies abroad to monitor the infected among the Iraqi communities, track their health conditions and secure supplies for their families to alleviate their suffering.

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim signed with his Saudi Arabian counterpart Mr. Ibrahim Al-Asaf a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the two countries.

This memorandum will be of great importance as it will open the horizons of bilateral political and broad discussions, thus contributing to the convergence of views on issues of mutual interest and the realization of a common vision for further cooperation on many issues.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met Foreign Minister of Vatican Arch. Paul Richard Gallagher, during the meeting the two sides reviewed the bilateral relations and horizons to promote them to meet the aspirations of the two peoples.

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein delivered the speech of Iraq at the webinar on the situation of refugees and internally displaced persons during the pandemic, and called for coordinating efforts and finding sustainable financing to meet the challenges associated with the Coronavirus regarding the countries hosting refugees and displaced persons, especially in Iraq’s case... Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets that the authorities of the province of Catalonia declared unilateral separation, which contradicts the principles of the Spanish Constitution of 1978, that this decision would endanger security and peaceful coexistence in the Kingdom of Spain.

Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim discussed with Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, the Cypriot Foreign Minister the prospects for upgrading bilateral relations between the two countries by signing a number of memorandums of understanding, and activating the memorandum of understanding for political consultations between Iraq and Cyprus.

The two Ministers also discussed accelerate the holding of the International Conference for Reconstruction and Development in Iraq.
