US air strikes kill Isis leader Maher al-Bilawi in Iraqi city of Fallujah

US air strikes killed a leader of the Islamic State in the Iraqi city of Fallujah as US and Iraqi government forces continue a sustained attack to defeat terrorist networks.

Maher al-Bilawi, the commander of Daesh forces in Falluajh, was killed on May 25, according to the spokesperson of the US military campaign leading the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Operation Inherent Resolve army colonel Steve Warren confirmed the death of Mr al-Bilawi and more than 70 terrorists in recent air strikes.

Update on the Redeployment of Iraqi Security Forces to Federal Installations in Kirkuk Province.

In accordance with the orders of the Commander-in-Chief Dr. Haider AlAbadi,
the Joint Operations Command of the Iraqi Security Forces
commenced the redeployment of units of the Iraqi Army, CounterTerrorism
Service, Emergency Response Division, and the Federal Police
to federal installations, military bases and vital infrastructure in Kirkuk
province in the early hours of today, 16 October, 2017.

University of Arkansas signs its third Iraqi school deal

For the third time within the past 11 months, the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville has signed a cooperative agreement with an Iraqi university.

In a formal agreement announced Thursday, UA and the University of Sulaimani will "work to create programs for exchanging academic, research and other educational materials," the announcement from UA states. The agreement also calls for the development of opportunities for the Iraqi university to send students to UA.

U.N. starts first aid airlifts to Syria from Iraq as cold grips

The United Nations sent its first delivery of humanitarian aid by air to Syria from Arbil, Iraq on Sunday and said it plans to deliver more food and winter supplies in the next 12 days.

The U.N. said two planes are expected to do 23 rotations over the next 10 days. The aid includes planeloads of food, for more than 6,000 Syrian families for the rest of December.
