H.E. President of the Republic Dr. Barham Salih congratulated Sabean Mandaeans on the occasion of the Great Eid and the Mandaean New Year, on Wednesday's today, July 17, 2019.
His Excellency the President stressed, in a telegram on this occasion, the importance of promoting the values of love, brotherhood and participation among all components of Iraq and its specter, commending Sabean Mandaeans' role in building Iraq on the basis of freedom, equality and values of justice and democracy.

The delegation of the Republic of Iraq, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Mohammed Tamim, and the delegation of the United States Government, led by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, co-chaired a meeting of the Higher Coordinating Committee on April 15, in accordance with the 2008 Iraq-U.S. Strategic Framework Agreement. Foreign Minister Dr.Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met with Foreign Minister of the republic of Syria Mr. Walid Al-Muallem on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. They reviewed the issues of common interest, affirming the necessity of combining efforts and cooperation to enhance security and stability of the region and defeat terrorism.

Mr. Al-Muallem officially invited Dr. Al-Jaafari to visit Damascus in the framework of opening new horizons for joint cooperation.

The Government of Iraq today steadfastly denied that it has signed any contracts to buy military weapons, ammunition or other military equipment from Iran, as alleged in some recent news reports. In a statement, Iraq’s Ministry of Defense explained that numerous international firms, including Iran’s Defense Industries Organization, recently submitted offers to provide Iraq with military hardware, but the proposal from Iran was rejected.
