Foreign Minister Meets President of International Committee of the Red Cross on Sidelines of 73rd Session of United Nations General Assembly in New York

Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mr. Peter Maurer on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and reviewed the overall situation in Iraq and the efforts of the Red Cross in Iraq.

Dr. Al-Jaafari praised the work of the organization and its role in Iraq. "We thank you for the humanitarian assistance you have provided to the Iraqi people in their war against Daesh terrorist gangs.

Adding: We invite you to continue to support, and assist in all areas, including: the disclosure of mass graves of victims killed by Daesh terrorist gangs, and expressed that we are looking forward to receive training for the Iraqi staff and benefiting from the experiences of the Red Cross,", stressing the readiness of the Foreign Ministry to provide all services to facilitate the work of the Red Cross in Iraq.

On his part, Mr. Peter Maurer said that Iraq's support for the priorities of the work of the Red Cross, explaining: We support the efforts of the Iraqi government in the past period in many areas, including: the return of displaced families to their areas of residence, and will continue to work with the next government.

Stressing that we will make efforts, and we call on our teams to cooperate with the Iraqi government agencies to uncover the mass graves of victims killed by Daesh terrorist gangs, and we have contact with the Iraq Department of Forensic Medicine .
