Ambassador Faily sits down with Voice of America

Ambassador Faily sat down with Voice of America last week to discuss the latest developments in Iraq. He discussed the ongoing situation in Anbar and disputed the prevailing sectarian narrative, noting the Iraqi government's "evenhanded" approach to tackling extremist groups throughout the country.

Ambassador Faily stressed that Iraq and the United States were cooperating at the highest levels to ensure that Iraq is equipped to fight Al-Qaeda militants. He highlighted aspects of the strategic partnership including cooperation on counter-terrorism and technology-transfer.

On the regional front, Ambassador Faily said that Iraq's position towards the Syrian conflict had been consistently neutral and that this was a reflection of the country's foreign policy approach, which is opposed to interfering in the domestic affairs of other countries; and seeks strong relations with all of its neighbors.
