Appointed-Ambassador Faily Delivers Remarks at Ramadan Iftar Event in Los Angeles

Appointed-Ambassador Lukman Faily delivered remarks at the Iraqi General Consulate in Los Angeles on July 13, 2013 during the Iftar event on the occasion of Ramadan. Iftar is the meal that marks the end of the daily fast.

The Ambassador extended his well wishes to hundreds of people from the Iraqi community on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, considering this to be a time for individuals to recall moral values. Mr. Faily also expressed his pride in the Iraqi community, stressing their constructive role in the United States, where opportunities are available for them to positively contribute to society. Further, Ambassador Faily extended his appreciation to Mr. Steven Choi, Mayor of the City of Irvine, who was also in attendance at the Iftar event.

Mayor Choi delivered remarks, admiring the historical role of Iraq and expressing his appreciation for hosting the Iftar event in Los Angeles.

The Iraqi Consul General Mr. Ahmed N. Jawad conveyed Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki and the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ greetings to the Iraqi community in this holy month. The Consul General stressed the holiness of this month and called for forgiveness, tolerance, love and serenity, and self-righteousness. He praised Minister Hoshyar Zebari for his commitment to establishing a consulate with a high level of professionalism, performance and dedication.

At the conclusion of the Ramadan Iftar event, commemorative gifts were distributed to the Iraqi community soccer team, which finished second out of 16 teams participating in the tournament.
