Foreign Minister and UN Special Envoy to Syria Discuss Syrian Situation

Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali Al-Hakim and UN Special Envoy to Syria, Mr. Geir Pedersen, discussed the latest developments in Syria and ways to resolve the crisis.

Minister Alhakim stressed during the meeting held on the sidelines of the Davos conference in Switzerland that the solution of the crisis must be by Syria and without the intervention of any foreign party, adding that Iraq supports the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Syria and his capabilities to achieve positive results, and stated that the United Nations must take its role in ending conflicts and helping people achieve security and stability.

On his part, Mr. Pedersen said that he needed the support of Iraq in the next phase to make his mission as a special envoy to Syria, adding that he will work with all sincerity to find a solution to the crisis and preserve the unity of Syria and its territorial integrity.
